Project 2: Creation of a Metadata Catalog and Platforms for Sepsis Epidemiology Studies
Principal Investigators

Dr. Isabel Fortier | Assistant Professor, McGill University
Project Summary
This completed infrastructure project established a comprehensive Sepsis Metadata Catalogue designed to enhance the study of sepsis epidemiology by integrating diverse datasets. Since sepsis-related data in Canada is widely distributed and often not well known to investigators, this project aimed to bridge these gaps by creating a centralized resource for accessing and analyzing metadata.
The completed catalogue provides access to descriptive metadata from multiple datasets, including clinical records identifying sepsis events and non-medical datasets containing broader health and socio-environmental information. By linking and harmonizing these fragmented data sources, the catalogue enables researchers to explore novel risk factors for sepsis, conduct cross-dataset analyses, and generate new insights.
This resource supports discovery, monitoring of improvements, and informed policymaking. Additionally, it facilitates the development of innovative research projects, including those involving patient partners, ensuring a more holistic approach to understanding and addressing sepsis.
