About World Sepsis Day
World Sepsis Day is an initiative by the Global Sepsis Alliance that was established in 2012. The GSA is a non-profit organization with the mission to provide global leadership to reduce the worldwide burden of sepsis.
Every year on September 13th, countless events raising awareness of sepsis are organized all over the world. The events range from medical education to information for lay people, sports activities, fundraising events like pink picnics, and much more.

Illuminations & Proclamations
Sepsis Canada is honoured to announce that we have once again broken the record for the number of structures illuminated pink for World Sepsis Day!
Over the weekend of September 13, 2025, 98 structures lit up across all 10 provinces and 1 territory. We also secured our first illumination in one of Canada's three territories, marking a key milestone in raising awareness in the north.
We are also proud to announce that the governments of Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon officially proclaimed World Sepsis Day 2025, standing as a key step in recognizing sepsis as a national health priority.
